Modern Healing.

For over 2,500 years, burning moxa has been used to warm the body's meridians, expel cold, and restore the natural flow of Qi. Our registered physicians combine this time-honoured technique with modern clinical precision to address conditions that cold, stagnation, and deficiency create.

Warmth That Goes
Deeper Than Heat

🔬 Modern Research

"Moxibustion's infrared radiation penetrates several centimetres below the skin — far deeper than conventional heat packs — directly stimulating blood vessels, nerve endings, and immune cells. Research has shown it upregulates haem oxygenase-1 (HO-1), a potent anti-inflammatory enzyme, producing systemic immunological effects that explain centuries of clinical success."

— Journal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine, Infrared Moxibustion Research Review

Warming the Meridians,
Restoring Vitality

At Han TCM, we use refined, low-smoke moxa to deliver precise therapeutic warmth to the acupoints most relevant to your condition. Whether applied directly on a ginger or salt base, or indirectly using a moxa stick, each session is tailored to your TCM diagnosis.

Moxibustion is particularly transformative for patients with "Cold" or "Deficiency" constitutions — those who are chronically cold, fatigued, or prone to digestive weakness and hormonal imbalance. When combined with acupuncture, its effects are amplified significantly.

"Where there is warmth, there is flow. Where there is flow, there is healing."

Conditions We Treat

Moxibustion works best where cold, deficiency, and stagnation are the root patterns.

1.
Gynaecological & Reproductive Health
Painful periods · Irregular cycles · Fertility support · Postnatal recovery

Moxibustion is one of TCM's most celebrated treatments for women's health. Warming the lower abdomen and key acupoints directly stimulates uterine blood flow, regulates the HPO hormonal axis, and resolves the Cold and Blood Stagnation patterns underlying most menstrual pain and reproductive dysfunction.

Dysmenorrhea (painful periods)
Irregular or absent periods
Breech presentation (BL67 protocol)
Postnatal fatigue and recovery
PCOS — warming the uterine environment
Endometriosis pain management
Perimenopausal cold and fatigue
Low libido from Kidney Yang deficiency
Gynaecological & Reproductive Health
2.
Musculoskeletal Pain & Cold Conditions
Arthritis · Chronic joint pain · Cold limbs · Lower back stiffness

In TCM, "Where there is cold, there is stagnation — where there is stagnation, there is pain." Moxibustion directly expels cold from the meridians and joints, immediately improving circulation in the treated area.

Rheumatoid and osteoarthritis aggravated by cold
Chronic lower back pain and lumbar stiffness
Cold limbs, numbness, and poor circulation
Chronic muscle soreness and deep fatigue
Knee pain with cold, heavy sensation
Shoulder and neck stiffness in cold weather
Post-operative swelling and recovery
Bone spur pain and joint degeneration
Musculoskeletal Pain & Cold Conditions
3.
Digestive & Immune Support
Chronic diarrhoea · Nausea · Stomach cramps · Fatigue · Frequent colds

The Spleen and Stomach meridians respond exceptionally well to warmth. Applied to key abdominal acupoints — particularly ST36 (Zusanli), known as the "longevity point" — moxibustion strengthens the digestive engine, boosts immune function, and resolves the chronic "Dampness" underlying many internal complaints.

Chronic loose stools and diarrhoea
Nausea and stomach cramping
Poor appetite and abdominal bloating
Post-surgical or post-illness fatigue
Frequent colds and low immunity
Long COVID fatigue and lingering symptoms
Chronic fatigue syndrome
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (cold-type)
Digestive & Immune Support
4.
Vitality, Ageing & Preventive Wellness
Chronic fatigue · Kidney deficiency · Yang deficiency · Anti-ageing

In classical TCM texts, regular moxibustion on CV4 (Guanyuan) and ST36 (Zusanli) is prescribed as a longevity practice — used to replenish Kidney Yang, the body's fundamental warming energy that naturally declines with age.

Kidney Yang deficiency (cold constitution)
Chronic fatigue and adrenal exhaustion
Decreased libido and vitality
Age-related decline in energy and warmth
Preventive seasonal wellness (Winter protocols)
Suboptimal health and low-grade symptoms
Vitality, Ageing & Preventive Wellness

"Most patients find the session so relaxing, they fall asleep during the treatment."

What to Expect at Your Session

01

Constitution Assessment

Your physician assesses whether your pattern is Cold, Deficient, or Stagnant. This determines which moxa method — stick, box, cone on ginger/salt, or needle-warming moxa — will produce the best result.

02

Gentle, Spreading Warmth

Moxa is applied to your specific acupoints. You will feel a deep, comfortable warmth radiating through the tissue — never burning or uncomfortable. Sessions last 20–40 minutes.

03

Combined with Acupuncture

For many conditions, moxa is applied to the needle handle (warm needling technique), combining the energy-moving effect of acupuncture with the warming penetration of moxa simultaneously.

04

Aftercare & Home Practice

Your physician may teach you simple self-moxibustion techniques for daily home practice between sessions — particularly useful for chronic conditions requiring consistent warmth.
